Welcome!

Scouts BSA Troop 188F is a BSA Quality Unit is located in Lake Villa, Illinois and serves youth males and females in Northern Lake County. The Troop is a member of the North Star District within the Northeast Illinois Council. The Troop was founded in 1965 and is currently comprised of nearly 90 Scouts and 70 Leaders. Our Troop is chartered by Lake Villa United Methodist and meets at the Lake Villa Township Center located at 37850 N. IL Hwy 59; Lake Villa, IL. 60046. The Troop firmly advocates being a "Scout Run" troop. Our scouts develop, plan, and execute the program - meetings and outings. They are responsible for choosing the meeting topics and delivering the content. They are also responsible for selecting outing types and locations and then working through their planning and execution. We follow this approach because we find it provides the best learning experience possible. Many troops advocate this approach, but we believe we take it further than most. Our goal is to build leaders utilizing the Scout Oath and Scout Law as guidelines. Each scout has an opportunity to develop character, citizenship, and physical and mental fitness. Focusing on an outdoors-oriented environment, the members of Troop 188 are provided with opportunities for leadership development and the learning of skills in a variety of areas. We provide many opportunities to advance through the Scout ranks - we are proud of our many scouts that have made it to the Eagle Rank. The over-riding principles are that the scouts are provided a safe environment to grow and develop and in the process, have fun. We meet most Thursday nights at 7 pm in the main meeting room at the Lake Villa Township Center, located in Lake Villa, IL. Interested youth (both male and female), and parents are always welcome and invited to visit. For more information, please email scoutmaster@lakevilla188.mytroop.us

Monthly Camp Out Procedures

Posted by jhertzke on Mar 9 2026 - 9:20pm

SCOUTS

1. Sign up on the Troop website at least 2 weeks prior to the camp out. Scouts signing up late will need to provide their own transportation to and from camp because rides will have already been assigned by that time. We can't guarantee rides if we do not have sufficient lead time. If you will be arriving late, leaving early, meeting at camp, etc. please note this in the comments sections. If you are an adult attending, please indicate if you are meeting at the Township Building, if you are able to drive Scouts and how many, and the information on which vehicle you will drive (year, make, model, license plate).

2. Complete a Camping Permission slip (found on the Troop website under files - camping). The form should be completed in full. Most important are the phone numbers and emergency contacts. Please do not leave them blank. This needs to be turned into your Scout's Patrol Leader at least 2 weeks prior to the camp out.

3. Payments for the camp out should be made to Troop 188 and given to our treasurer, Christopher Plescia. The cost is $25 per camp out (unless otherwise noted).

4. If you have any questions, changes, or cancellations for a camp out or need to get a hold of someone while your Scout is at camp, please first contact the camp coordinator for the month. This is noted in the event in the Troop website for each camp out.

5. Be prepared. Scouts should make sure they are packing all of their needed gear for the weekend and extras. You never know when you're going to all into a mud puddle or need an extra pair of dry socks.

6. Unless otherwise noted, the meeting time is always at 4:30 at the Lake Villa Township West Building. The wagon train will all head out by 5 pm at the latest.

7. You must always check in and out with the camp coordinator when you arrive and depart camp. No Scout left behind!

8. Everyone camping must have a copy of Parts A and B of the medical form completed. If the campout is longer than 72 hours you also need part C. This applies to all adults, Scouts, and siblings. http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/HealthandSafety/ahmr.aspx

9. All adults camping with the Troop should have completed YPT training within the last 2 years.

Thank you for following each of these steps for camp outs! There is a lot of pre-work that goes into each of the camp outs. Having all of it done makes it much easier for Troop 188 to file needed paperwork with council, purchase food, make sure equipment is ready, etc.
